Vision for a City: The Why and How

Rome is a strategic metropolitan area:

With a metro area containing over 4 million people, Rome is a strategic capital city of influence in the world. In such a European, historic, cultural, financial and diplomatic capital, a healthy evangelical church in Rome has great potential to reach beyond to Italy and send workers into the rest of the world. ReachGlobal has never had a team in this important country till now.

The challenge of Rome:

Significantly less than 1% of the population of Rome is evangelical. The church does exist, but local believers characterize it as weak and divided. 90% of missionaries leave Italy after their first few years of service. It is of crucial importance to establish a ReachGlobal team with a multi-pronged approach in order to strengthen and expand Christ's church, in a city where buildings come at a premium or are not available at all!

Who are the team leaders?

Brian and Sarah Bennetch have 16 years of experience in church planting and Muslim work in Brussels, Belgium, another influential European capital with a largely Catholic population. During that time, they were part of the church planting team of the Communauté Chrétienne de Laeken, one of the largest French-speaking evangelical churches in Belgium, with over 20 different nationalities represented. The Bennetches also planted the Iranian Church of Brussels with another ReachGlobal couple. They have particular experience reaching out to various Muslim peoples. The Bennetches helped mentor new missionaries sent out by other organizations.

How do you reach a city like Rome?

Many areas of Rome have no enduring Gospel witness or congregation. We desire to reach neighborhoods for Christ by starting Gospel-centered communities. We can multiply the impact of the Gospel in our neighborhoods as we equip local believers to work together in reaching out to their city and to the rest of the world. We will serve people holistically with the Good News by working with like-minded believers to launch inner-city, immigrant, university and other urban ministries. We envision a network of simple, organic, and reproducing household-based churches which embody Kingdom principles.
